Lou Sylvester’s position as North Warren Regional High School Vice Principal was suddenly eliminated on April 26, according to the Change.org petition, which had garnered more than 1,300 signatures as of Wednesday afternoon.
The petition says Sylvester wasn’t given a reason for his termination and was “given no chance to speak up for himself or address the board.”
“He was blindsided by his colleagues and members of the board as they quickly and quietly made an announcement his position was being eliminated,” the petition says. “We cannot sit by and watch this administration destroy what little we have left of the true NWR.”
Sylvester is known throughout the district for his dedication to the North Warren Regional community, according to the petition’s creator, Taylor Casey.
“Lou Sylvester is the definition of a patriot, he has spent many years at NWR building long lasting relationships with parents, students, and extended families,” Casey wrote.
“He has dedicated his life to the school... being a constant for kids who needed him. He is part of the foundation of NWR, he is a bright light to these kids and he deserves to continue being that as long as he sees fit.”
The New Jersey Department of Education is named alongside the district as one of the petition’s “decision makers.”
The North Warren Regional School District did not respond to Daily Voice's request for comment.
